Visual Communication - Who am I?

Filed under: Uncategorized — paulprice @ 10:45 pm

This is my first post wow!

So for the course at Leeds College of Art and Design we were given a design brief to create something that represents us as is written below.

"Produce a piece of visual work that communicates who you are. Start by thinking about what you want us to know about you. What are the things that make you distinctly you? Do we need to know your age, family circumstances, place of birth, life experiences, interests, hopes, fears, secrets, in order to know and understand you? Or is it more important to show us, what you look at, listen to, make, or how you exercise, what you eat, what makes you laugh and makes you cry? It’s up to you what you want to tell us.

You should also convey something of how you work as an artist/designer. So consider carefully what are the most appropriate ways for you to visually express these ideas about yourself? You can use pretty much any media including: illustration, typography, photography, video, websites, objects, text, sound etc." - Them Vis Com People

At the start I had toyed with a few ideas such as a mock up newspaper but that involved too much text and I thought it would be better to try and communicate myself through pure visuals.

So far I've made 2 graphics which i'm sort of happy with, to an extent. The first one is based on music and is intended to show what type of music I like via the bands and how music goes hand in hand with art.

The second image is based on where I live, Northern Ireland, and it's meant to represent preconceptions about where I live, including the troubles, ship yards, sectarianism, but also show that these things do exist.

I think i'm going to do maybe one more of these based on fashion and then a typography based one.

Paul.
